Volunteering at the Region of Waterloo Library

The Region of Waterloo Library accepts both youth (14-17 years) and adult (18+) volunteers. RWL has library branches in the four rural townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich.

Region of Waterloo Library volunteers:

• Earn valuable work experience
• Gain a sense of satisfaction by serving their community
• Meet new and interesting people with shared interests
• Gain new skills and knowledge
• Support life-long learning and literacy in Waterloo Region

What is it Like to Volunteer?

Once matched to an available position, volunteers receive an orientation to the library, an outline of duties, and a set schedule. A time commitment of approximately one to three hours per week is required, depending on the volunteer job description.  

If you are interested in volunteering at the library, please visit your local RWL branch and ask to speak to the Branch Coordinator.

Please note, not all branches may have volunteer positions available, and that some positions may not be available at all locations.

Screening and Selection Process

• Applications will be reviewed to ensure a good match between the volunteer's interests, skills and availability and the position requirements.
• Police Records Checks are required for positions working with children, seniors or vulnerable individuals.
• We will contact individuals and invite them to an interview.
• Upon completion of a successful interview, applicants are required to provide two references.
• Individuals will then receive notification about the next steps in the process.
