 Lanterns of light program image

Lanterns of Lights Community Art Project – Designed for all ages

Kits available for pick up beginning April 6 – while supplies last

RWLibrary is pleased to work with local artist Christie Shen on a Lanterns of Lights Community Art Project. The lanterns are a symbol of hope for brighter days to come!

Pick up your lantern kit at your local RWL branch. Make a lantern to keep and another for the art project. Return completed lanterns to your local RWL branch by Friday April 23, and Christie will turn them into a community art installation.

Maker Space - On Zoom - Designed for six to 10 years. 

Tuesdays – April 6, 13, 20, and 27at 3:30 p.m. 

 OR

Tuesday – April 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 4:30 p.m.  

Join us to build phenomenal creations through weekly challenges and activities based in STEAM: Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, and Math. The same program is offered twice each week, so please register for Tuesday at 3:30 OR 4:30 p.m.

Rise and Shine Storytime – On Zoom - Designed for families with preschool children

Wednesdays – April 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 9:30 a.m. 

Rise and shine, and join us Wednesday mornings for stories, songs, rhymes, and fun activities.

Tween Space – On Zoom - Designed for ages 11 to 14 years

Thursdays – April 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 4:15 p.m. 

Tweens, join this virtual space created for you to meet, hack, create, design and talk. Try projects, trivia, crafts, and more. 

Register at least 72 hours in advance for your supply kit from your local RWL branch. Contactless pick up is available at the door during opening hours.

Forest of Reading®- on ReadSquared – Designed for children ages 4 to 18

On Now to April 30

The Forest of Reading Program® is Canada's largest recreational reading program. Find your reading "tree" in the forest and discover some new Canadian books! To participate, sign up online, read the books, vote for your favourite title, and join in fun activities.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten- on ReadSquared – Designed for children ages birth - prekindergarten - On Now! 

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an excellent way to help your child on their path to reading success. Track the books you read with your child. Yes, repeated books do count! Each book you read is a chance to bond and build your child’s language skills.

 Spring break at the library

Spring Break Kits– Designed for children ages 4-12 years

Kits available for pick up beginning April 6 – while supplies last

The Region of Waterloo Library is excited to offer Spring Break Kits! Call your local RWL branch, show your library card, and pick up one kit per child. Don't have a library card yet? Now is a great time to get one!

Choose from one of four kits – while supplies last:

  1. Hack-an-Egg: kit includes a plastic egg, LED tea light and assorted materials
  2. Sharpie Tie-Dye: kit includes sharpies, rubbing alcohol, and fabric
  3. Canvas Painting: kit includes a canvas, paint, and painting materials
  4. Salt Dough: kit includes ingredients to make salt dough, straws, and cord

Each Spring Break kit also includes a Lantern of Light kit as part of RWL’s community art project with artist Christie Shen.

Adult Craft Night: Paper Lanterns - on Zoom - Designed for adults and teens

Join us for a special version of adult craft night with artist Christie Shen. Make a paper lantern and return it to an RWL branch to become part of this community-wide art program.  Register at least 72 hours in advance to pick up your supply kit from your local RWL branch. Contactless pick up is available at the door during opening hours.

Adult Book Discussion: Red at the Bone on Zoom - Designed for adults

Thursday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Join RWL's online book discussion! This month’s book is Red at the Bone by award-winning author Jacqueline Woodson. We’ll discuss how the book uncovers the role that history and community play in the experiences, decisions and relationships of families.
