Chromebook Terms of Use

Chromebooks provide Internet access (when connected to Wi-Fi) and web-based applications. By borrowing a Chromebook, you agree to our Internet Use Agreement and the following Terms and Conditions.

  • Eligibility: Patrons must be 16 years or older with a valid library card.
  • Loan Period: Chromebooks can be borrowed for three weeks and can be renewed up to three times if no holds are pending. Overdue Chromebooks will remotely shut down. Patrons can borrow one Chromebook per adult card at a time.
  • Holds: Patrons can place holds on Chromebooks. These must be picked up within one week of notification at the circulation desk.
  • Replacement Cost: Borrowers are responsible for replacement costs if the Chromebook or accessories are damaged or lost.
  • Items Included in Kit: One Chromebook, a mouse, and a power supply.
  • Using a Chromebook: Internet access is required for Chromebooks. Devices operate in 'Guest Mode' to protect users' privacy, meaning no content will be saved after a session ends or the device is turned off. Please save your work frequently to a USB drive, external hard drive, or online cloud service.
  • Returning a Chromebook: Return Chromebooks to the circulation desk at any Region of Waterloo Library location during open hours. Library staff will inspect each device at check-in. Patrons are responsible for any loss or damage during the lending period.
  • Device Care: Please keep Chromebooks at room temperature. Avoid leaving them outside or in vehicles.
