Accessible Collections

The Region of Waterloo Library aims to diversify its collection to include accessible materials. The following are accessible formats available in the catalogue.

Audiobooks

Audiobooks are a convenient way to 'read' books when you are busy or on the go. Fiction and non-fiction titles are available for all ages and interests in a variety of formats.

  • CD Audiobooks: use in any CD compatible device
  • Playaways:  digital device preloaded with the audiobook; one AAA battery and headphones required

C-Pen ReaderPens

The C-Pen ReaderPen is a convenient portable tool to support independent reading and literacy. Scan text with this pen to have words read out with natural speaking voices or defined in an instant.

Everything is built-in and there is no need for an internet connection.

  • Reads text out aloud.
  • Looks up and reads out definitions of words.
  • No Wi-Fi required.
  • Speaker and earphone jack. (earphones not included)
  • Rechargeable battery.

The ReaderPen is a great tool to support independent reading for those with ADHD, visual impairments, dyslexia, or other learning disabilities.

C-Pen ReaderPens are loaned for three week periods but may be renewed if there are no holds for other patrons. Place a hold to pick one up!

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA)

The Centre for Equitable Library Access provides a broad range of materials in accessible formats (including DAISY player, Braille display, Victor reader, and others) with convenient delivery options for all residents with print disabilities. To register for CELA service, patrons must have a Region of Waterloo Library card. You may apply for a library card online or visit a branch to obtain a card.

If you already have a Region of Waterloo Library Card, sign-up with CELA to register or contact your local library branch for assistance.

With a CELA membership, quickly search and download digital books on the EasyReader app on your iOS or Android device. Follow the steps in the Quick User Guide to EasyReader to start!
