Fake Library Emails - Beware
Posted on Tuesday February 13, 2018
Some library members have reported receiving suspicious looking emails, which appear to be coming from the Region of Waterloo Library. In many cases, these emails suggest the library member has an overdue bill or outstanding balance. They may include subject lines like "Overdue Payment" or "Late Payment" and appear to be sent from a library email address (e.g. ayrlib@regionofwaterloo.ca). Many of these emails include a link for you to click, which will take you to an unknown third party website. If you get a similar email or any email that looks suspicious, please do not click on any of the links and delete it.
Unfortunately, the library cannot prevent these emails from being sent as they are distributed from third parties outside of our control. For that reason, it is important that our library members understand the difference between a notice from the library and those from illegitimate sources. While the Region of Waterloo Library does send out Overdue Notices as a courtesy for our patrons, we do not request your personal information or payment online. Legitimate Overdue Notices from the Region of Waterloo Library include a list of any outstanding materials, as well as the contact details and hours for your preferred branch.
Please feel free to contact any Region of Waterloo Library branch if you are unsure about any email claiming to be from the library. We are happy to assist you!
